Assassin’s Creed Shadows Becomes One of 2025’s Best-Selling Games in the U.S.

Assassin's Creed Shadows has proven to be a major sales success for Ubisoft, ranking as the best-selling video game in the United States for three straight weeks since its launch. The game is currently the second best-selling title of 2025 so far, trailing only Monster Hunter: Wilds.

Mat Piscatella, an analyst at market research firm Circana, shared this information through his Bluesky on Monday, noting that the latest data tracked sales through April 5th.

What makes Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ rise even more impressive is the timing: Monster Hunter: Wilds launched on February 28, giving it a three-week head start. Despite this, Shadows—which debuted on March 20—quickly climbed the charts and cemented its place as a top performer in 2025’s gaming market.

While Circana hasn't disclosed specific sales figures, Ubisoft has announced that more than 3 million players experienced the game during its first week. This number likely includes those who received promotional copies or accessed the game through Ubisoft+ subscriptions. The exact number of units sold remains unknown as the game approaches its one-month release anniversary.

The strong performance of Assassin's Creed Shadows comes at a crucial time for Ubisoft, which has faced company uncertainty in recent months. More detailed information about the game's financial impact may emerge during Ubisoft's upcoming earnings call scheduled for May 14.

As of March 1, the top five best-selling games in the US for 2025 were:

• Monster Hunter: Wilds

• Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

• Civilization VII

• Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

• NBA 2K25

When asked about which game has maintained the longest streak at the number one position so far this year, Piscatella noted that "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 ranked 1st each week through week ending February 1st." Black Ops 6 was released on October 25, 2024, and If we calculate the number of weeks from its release date to the week ending February 1, 2025, it spans approximately 14 weeks.
