Bandai Namco Hits Record 995% Proffit in Fiscal Year

Bandai Namco Holdings has reached its highest-ever financial performance for the year ending March 2025.

The company's digital content business, which includes console and mobile games, performed far better than expected.

The gaming division saw impressive growth with sales jumping 22.3% to reach about $3.16 billion, significantly exceeding their initial target of $2.57 billion.

Even more remarkable was the profit increase of 995%, reaching $475 million compared to the forecasted $208 million.

Console games played a major role in this success, with sales growing by 42.6% compared to the previous year. FromSoftware's "Elden Ring" and its expansion "Shadow of the Erdtree" were standout performers.

The new fighting game "Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero" also contributed significantly, selling over 5.4 million copies worldwide.

Mobile games showed steady improvement too, with sales rising by 3.5% year-on-year. According to the financial report, licensed games based on popular franchises like "Dragon Ball" and "One Piece," along with "Gakuen Idolmaster," were the biggest contributors to this growth.

This remarkable turnaround follows a difficult previous year. During fiscal year 2024, Bandai Namco experienced substantial losses due to canceled projects and the underperformance of their expensive MMORPG "Blue Protocol," which was eventually shut down.

Looking ahead, the company is projecting a more conservative outlook for fiscal year 2026. Sales are expected to decrease by 14.4% to approximately $2.7 billion, with operating income dropping by 41.6% to around $277 million. This forecast reflects a smaller lineup of new releases compared to the exceptional 2025 fiscal year.

Despite this projected decline, some new titles are showing promise. Reports indicate that "SD Gundam G-Generation Eternal" has already gotten off to a strong start, suggesting the company may continue to find success with carefully selected game releases.

Upcoming Elden Ring Nightreign and Elden Ring Tarnished Edition on Switch 2 also have high expectations among the gaming community and fans of the series.
