Battlefield 6 has already proven to be a commercial success for EA, selling more than 7 million copies worldwide. But while the sales figures are impressive, the launch has sparked controversy after veteran developer Marcus Lehto revealed that several key contributors were left out of the game’s credits.

Lehto, best known as the co-creator of Halo and Master Chief, took to LinkedIn to express his disappointment. He explained that Ridgeline Games, the studio he co-founded to work on Battlefield’s single-player campaign, played a crucial role in laying the foundation for the project. Despite this, many of its developers were either pushed into a “Special Thanks” section at the very end of the credits or omitted entirely.
These talented developers worked tirelessly for 1 to 2.5 years, building the foundation of the game,” Lehto wrote, adding that even he was excluded from the official list.

To highlight the issue, Lehto shared an edited version of the credits that included missing names such as lead character artist Addres Naranjo, lead technical artist Rohan Knuckey, and engineers Jessica Moore and Dan Carr. “Game development is a team effort, and every contributor deserves fair acknowledgment,” he emphasized.
This isn’t the first time the industry has faced criticism over crediting practices. Similar controversies have surfaced with titles like Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and Baldur’s Gate 3. The debate underscores a long-standing issue in game development: recognition often doesn’t extend to those who leave a project before launch.
Ridgeline itself had a short-lived history. EA opened the studio in 2021, only to shut it down in early 2024 amid mass layoffs. Many of its developers were absorbed into Ripple Effect, which now works alongside DICE, Motive, and Criterion under the Battlefield Studios banner.
