After months of speculation and leaks, Battlefield 6 has finally been unveiled in full — and there's a lot to digest. From an official release date and confirmed platforms to a wide range of maps, multiplayer modes, weapons, and even a brand-new Battle Royale mode, EA and Battlefield Studios have laid out their ambitious plans for the next chapter in the iconic FPS franchise.
Let’s break everything down so you don’t miss a beat.
Battlefield 6 Release Date and Platforms
Battlefield 6 is officially launching worldwide on October 10, 2025. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the EA app).
However, for those hoping to see the game on the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s a no-go. According to Battlefield Studios head Vince Zampella, there are currently no plans to bring the title to the platform. The studio is instead focused on optimizing the game for platforms where the core Battlefield audience resides.
Multiplayer Reveal and Game Modes
EA pulled back the curtain on Battlefield 6’s multiplayer with a reveal event streamed live from Los Angeles on July 31. Influencers, creators, and press were invited to go hands-on with the game, and it didn’t disappoint.
The reveal showcased dynamic maps, high-stakes combat, and a comprehensive list of returning and new multiplayer modes.
Here are the confirmed multiplayer modes:
Conquest – Classic large-scale warfare, focused on capturing and holding key control points.
Breakthrough – Attackers push through defensive sectors; defenders aim to drain the attackers’ reinforcement tickets.
Rush – A fast-paced mode where attackers plant bombs on M-COM stations while defenders try to defuse them.
Team Deathmatch – Straightforward gunplay; first team to reach the kill target wins.
Squad Deathmatch – Four squads battle it out for kill supremacy.
Domination – Teams fight to capture and hold multiple objectives, earning points for control.
King of the Hill – Fight for control of a zone that may rotate across the map.
Escalation – A new mode where two teams battle over strategic control points that progressively converge into a final, climactic battle zone.
Battle Royale – A separate, free-to-play mode with both a standard BR experience and a mysterious “Gauntlet” mode.
The return of Battlefield Portal also means players can build custom games, share them, and tweak gameplay to their liking.

Battle Royale Goes Free-to-Play
Perhaps the biggest curveball? Battlefield 6’s Battle Royale mode will be free-to-play, separate from the main game. While details are still under wraps, two versions are reportedly in development: a standard battle royale and a new competitive “Gauntlet” mode.
This F2P component will be integrated into Battlefield Labs, EA’s live testing environment. Expect more news on that front in the coming weeks.
Crossplay and Platform Compatibility
In welcome news, Battlefield 6 will launch with full crossplay support across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The feature aims to reduce matchmaking wait times and improve overall server health.
As noted in Eurogamer’s preview, crossplay is enabled by default, but you can disable it—useful if you want to avoid potential PC cheaters while playing on console.

EA is hosting three beta phases ahead of the full release. The first is invite-only, while the next two will be open to everyone.

Final Thoughts
Battlefield 6 is shaping up to be a massive return for the series, balancing the franchise's roots with modern trends like free-to-play Battle Royale and user-generated content via Portal. With large-scale battles, dynamic environments, an extensive weapon roster, and full crossplay, it looks like EA is pulling out all the stops this time.
Still, the decision to skip Nintendo’s hardware may disappoint some fans. But for those on PC, Xbox, or PlayStation, October can’t come soon enough.
