Brazil's gambling regulators have announced several new measures aimed at protecting citizens from problem gambling. The Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA) is rolling out these initiatives as online gambling popularity increases following its legalization on January 1, 2025.
Last week, the SPA revealed multiple new protections, with a national self-exclusion platform being the top priority for 2025-26. This platform will help bettors who feel they might be developing a gambling addiction by allowing them to voluntarily block themselves from betting sites.
Beyond the self-exclusion program, Brazil's regulatory body plans to impose stricter rules on gambling advertisements while monitoring partnerships between betting companies and sports entities.
Another key initiative is the introduction of a certification seal for licensed platforms, which supports their current ".bet.br" domain strategy. As per the regulator's plan, this will help Brazilian bettors easily identify legitimate licensed gambling platforms and avoid illegal operators that lack proper player protections.
The SPA has also announced plans to unify state and federal regulations through a single National Betting System, scheduled to launch in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The regulatory body has already demonstrated its willingness to enforce compliance by taking action against several licensed betting operators.
The regulated market began on January 1, 2025, with projections estimating BRL 10–20 billion (USD 2–4 billion) in annual tax revenue and significant job creation.
