Daredevil and Shadowheart Team Up in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – Here's the Full Voice Cast Roster

Charlie Cox and Jennifer English

Hey, gamers, buckle up because the upcoming Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is shaping up to be a wild ride, and it’s bringing some serious star power to the table.

Imagine this: Charlie Cox, the man who brought Marvel’s Daredevil to life, is joining forces with Jennifer English, the voice behind Baldur’s Gate 3’s fan-favorite Shadowheart, in a brand-new turn-based RPG from Sandfall Interactive.

Yeah, you heard that right—Matt Murdock and Shadowheart’s voice actors are diving into a Belle Époque-inspired fantasy world together, and I’m already counting down the days to April 24, 2025.

So, what’s the deal with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33? Picture a visually stunning game that blends the charm of classic JRPGs with a fresh, painterly aesthetic—think Persona meets Final Fantasy with a dash of French art nouveau. Shuhei Yoshida, the former president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, was even surprised, calling it a "beautiful" game created by a team of just 30.

The story follows a group of adventurers from the city of Lumière, tasked with stopping a malevolent force called the Paintress, who wakes up once a year to wreak havoc with her deadly brushstrokes. It’s a high-stakes quest filled with mystery, betrayal, and some seriously tough choices, and the voice cast is here to make every moment hit hard.

Charlie Cox and Jennifer English as Gustave and Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Charlie Cox steps into the boots of Gustave, the expedition’s scrappy engineer and de facto leader. If you’ve seen Cox dodge bullets and deliver heartfelt monologues as Daredevil, you know he’s got the chops to bring depth to this determined hero. Gustave’s all about protecting his city and unraveling the Paintress’ secrets, but he’s got his own demons to wrestle with. I’m betting Cox will nail that mix of grit and vulnerability, making Gustave a protagonist we’ll be rooting for from the jump.

Then there’s Jennifer English as Maelle, Gustave’s foster sister and a shy dreamer itching to explore the world beyond Lumière’s walls. If you romanced Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3 (no judgment, we’ve all been there), you know English can deliver a performance that’s equal parts tender and fierce. Maelle sounds like she’s got a lot to prove, and I’m excited to see how English brings her journey to life—especially since Maelle’s not exactly a battle-hardened warrior like Shadowheart. It’s a fresh vibe, but I trust English to make us fall in love with her all over again.

"She’s the epitome of a dream character for me - captivating, intricately layered, exquisitely written,” English stated about Maelle.

The rest of the cast is stacked, too—

  • Kirsty Rider as Lune: Featured in The Sandman and Sifu, Rider voices a brilliant scholar and mage determined to unravel the mystery of the Paintress. "She’s clear about her purpose, which was instilled by her parents from a young age."

  • Shala Nyx as Sciel: Known for roles in The Old Guard and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Nyx portrays a cheerful warrior with a tragic past, committed to the expedition’s success. "Sciel’s wisdom, sense of play, wonder, and gratitude, her ability to have this light and playful side despite her deeply melancholic past."

  • Andy Serkis as Renoir: Famous for Gollum in The Lord of the Rings and numerous other roles, Serkis plays a complex antagonist driven to save his family, potentially clashing with the expedition.

  • Ben Starr as Verso: The voice of Clive in Final Fantasy XVI, Starr takes on the role of a mysterious and dangerous stranger tracking the expedition. “The moral ambiguity of Verso was so immediately enticing. He’s such a darkly mysterious character."

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 cast

  • Rich Keeble: Known from Good Omens, Keeble voices a character described as “loyal, eloquent, terrifying,” though the specific role (possibly Monoco) remains unconfirmed.

  • Devora Wilde: A Baldur’s Gate 3 alum (Lae’zel), Wilde is part of the cast, but her character has not been detailed yet.

  • Tracy Wiles: Another Baldur’s Gate 3 veteran (Jaheira), Wiles is also cast in an undisclosed role.

With a lineup this strong, the dialogue’s bound to pop, whether it’s heartfelt campfireside chats or tense showdowns with the Paintress. Plus, the game’s turn-based combat looks slick, with real-time mechanics that let you chain attacks and dodge like a pro. It’s dropping day one on Xbox Game Pass, alongside PS5 and PC, so there’s no excuse to miss it.
