Known for their creature-collecting hit Palworld, developer Pocketpair is venturing into darker territory with their newly announced psychological horror game Dead Take. Developed by Surgent Studios and published by Pocketpair, the game has already started turning heads—not just for its eerie mansion setting and horror elements, but also because of its impressive cast reveal.
In a recent trailer released to mark the occasion, Surgent Studios pulled back the curtain on two of the game’s lead performers: Neil Newbon and Ben Starr. Both actors will portray a mysterious character named Willie, though how that works in the narrative is still unclear. The idea of two performers sharing a single role definitely adds a psychological twist that fits right into the game’s unsettling theme.
For fans of narrative-heavy games, this cast lineup is exciting. Neil Newbon is no stranger to the genre, having delivered memorable performances as Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3 and Karl Heisenberg in Resident Evil Village. Meanwhile, Ben Starr gained wide recognition as Clive Rosfield in Final Fantasy XVI, and more recently appeared in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Date Everything.
Dead Take blends live-action sequences with interactive gameplay and centers around the disappearance of a friend named Vinny. After a glamorous party, Vinny goes missing, prompting players to search a lavish yet sinister mansion filled with old film sets, broken projectors, and corrupted video files.
According to Pocketpair, the game will be a mix of puzzle-solving, exploration, and live-action horror, putting players in the unsettling position of piecing together disturbing truths using found footage. The vibe is already being compared to Immortality and Blue Prince, but with a much darker edge.
As of now, Dead Take is set to launch exclusively on PC via Steam. There’s no confirmed release date or word on console ports, but given Pocketpair’s growing reputation, expectations are high.
