Destiny 2: Renegades releases on December 2, 2025, as the second major paid expansion in the Year of Prophecy, and Bungie is treating it as a full 9.5.0 update.
It follows July’s The Edge of Fate and the free Ash & Iron update from September, while taking the series in a surprisingly bold direction with an official Lucasfilm Games collaboration for Star Wars themed content.

Global Launch Times
Bungie has already confirmed how the rollout will work.

What's included in Destiny 2: Renegades?
A Star Wars-Inspired Story Built Within Destiny’s Lore
The campaign pushes Guardians into a rogue-style adventure where we defy the Vanguard and chase the Drifter into Sol’s criminal underworld. There’s a new hub called Tharsis Outpost, which immediately feels like Destiny’s own version of a Tatooine cantina. It’s full of syndicate reps, side deals, shady contracts, and characters from various corners of the system.
This expansion’s enemy threat is the Barant Imperium, a Cabal faction with heavy Star Wars energy—white “stormtrooper-like” armor, walkers reminiscent of AT-STs, and a rising influence that Drifter believes may be connected to the Nine. And yes, it leans into this inspiration on purpose.
As per reports from early previews, the expansion walks the line between homage and original lore. It’s not Destiny copying Star Wars—it’s Destiny using Star Wars-style storytelling to enrich its own universe. That includes revenge arcs, underworld politics, syndicate alliances, and space-western-themed missions.
Lawless Frontier: Destiny’s New Core Activity
The heart of Renegades is the Lawless Frontier, a chaotic, repeatable PvE mode playable solo or with matchmaking. It spans six maps across three planets (remixed versions of Mars, Venus, and Europa) and mixes smuggling, sabotage, rescue missions, bounty hunts, and more. Think Helldivers meets Gambit meets Destiny patrols—constantly shifting objectives, dynamic weather/time cycles, and optional high-risk modifiers.
New Weapons
Renegades goes big with gear. The new Blaster archetype is clearly inspired by Star Wars weapons, complete with heat-based firing. Instead of reloading, your gun vents heat, cools off, and manages its fire rate.
Here are some new weapons:
Praxic Blade
Solar crossbow
Auto rifles
Pulse rifles
Fusion rifles
Shotguns
Sniper rifles
Sidearms
Heavy slot tools
New Abilities
Another major feature is the Renegade abilities you unlock by pledging to syndicates. These work as bonuses on top of your subclass. Some highlights include:
Calling down airstrikes
Dropping Cabal walkers into battle
Deploying turrets or swoop bikes
Summoning Vex shields
Triggering bombardments/ Shock burst / Melee charge
Roadmap (Post-Launch)
Renegades rolls out content through early 2026:
Dec 2 – Campaign + Lawless Frontier + new gear
Dec 9 – Update 9.5.0.1, Open Access ends
Dec 13 – Equilibrium Dungeon race
Dec 16 – The Dawning (3 weeks, new armor/weapons)
Dec 19 – Trials of Osiris refresh (new armor/weapons)
Jan 2026 – Arms Week (bow focus)
Mar 2026 – Guardian Games
Apr 2026 – Call to Arms event
TBD – Iron Banner, Heavy Metal (Tanks vs. Brigs)
There’s no new raid at launch because Bungie wants players engaged in the Frontier and its rituals rather than another one-and-done raid drop.
