A brand-new single-player Dungeons & Dragons action-adventure game is officially in the works, and it's being led by none other than Stig Asmussen, the game director behind Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and God of War 3.
Who's Developing the New D&D Game?
The game is being developed by Giant Skull, a studio founded by Asmussen in 2024 after his departure from Respawn Entertainment.
The LA-based studio was created with the mission to build “gameplay-driven, story-immersed action-adventure games set in captivating worlds.” This D&D title will be their debut project.
What Do We Know About the Game?
While the game remains untitled and many details are still under wraps, several key aspects have been confirmed:
Genre: Single-player, action-adventure
Setting: The Dungeons & Dragons universe
Engine: Unreal Engine 5
Platforms: PC and unannounced consoles
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast (owned by Hasbro)
Asmussen stated:
“Our talented and experienced team at Giant Skull is built on creativity and curiosity. Our goal is to craft a rich new Dungeons & Dragons universe filled with immersive storytelling, heroic combat and exhilarating traversal that players will fully embrace.”
Wizards of the Coast Expands Its D&D Game Portfolio
This announcement adds another major title to Wizards of the Coast’s expanding Dungeons & Dragons lineup, following the global success of Baldur’s Gate 3 by Larian Studios. While Larian has moved on from the franchise, Hasbro has confirmed plans to continue the Baldur’s Gate series with a new developer.
In addition to Giant Skull’s game, other D&D titles are also in development:
A co-op action-survival game from Gameloft
A live-service title by Payday studio Starbreeze (expected in 2026)
An Unreal Engine 5 project by Invoke Studios (known for Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance)
The sci-fi RPG Exodus, developed by Archetype Entertainment
A Promising Collaboration
John Hight, president of Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro’s digital gaming division, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, saying, “Stig and the team at Giant Skull are exactly the type of exceptionally talented creators we want to work with… I’m so happy to be reuniting with him on this new project.”
Hight and Asmussen previously worked together on the God of War franchise, and this new partnership reflects Hasbro’s “Playing to Win” strategy aimed at expanding its digital gaming presence.
So far, no release date has been announced, and further details are expected at a later date.
