Elon Musk Rage Quits Path of Exile 2 Stream After Brutal Trolling from Gamers

Elon Musk’s latest attempt to flex his gaming skills went down in flames—live and in real time.

On April 5, the tech billionaire livestreamed himself playing Path of Exile 2 from his private jet, supposedly as a way to show off SpaceX’s Starlink internet capabilities in-flight. But instead of a successful tech demo, the stream quickly spiraled into chaos—and ended with Musk rage-quitting after just 30 minutes.

Viewers weren’t kind. The in-game chat was flooded with insults and trolling, ranging from brutal personal digs like “YOU HAVE NO FRIENDS AND WILL DIE ALONE” to political swipes like “YOU RUINED THE COUNTRY JUST LIKE YOU RUINED ALL YOUR MARRIAGES.” Oof.

To make things worse, Musk was playing on the game’s Hardcore mode—where dying is permanent—and repeatedly failed to defeat even an early tutorial boss. After several embarrassing deaths, he abruptly ended the stream, citing a “connection loss.” Right.

Naturally, the internet had a field day. Gamers and streamers jumped in to roast the SpaceX CEO’s performance. Notably, New Zealand streamer Quin69TV chimed in, saying there’s “no possible way he’s getting out of Act One” based on Musk’s gameplay.

The criticism stung especially hard given Musk’s past bravado. Earlier this year, he bragged about being one of the top 20 Diablo 4 players in the world and claimed his Path of Exile 2 account was so fast it got temporarily banned for “too many clicks.” But when he streamed his gameplay weeks later, seasoned players quickly noticed he was making rookie mistakes—hardly the signs of a top-tier gamer.

That’s when rumors started circulating that Musk had hired professional players to level his character. Musk didn’t exactly deny it. In fact, he later said, “The top accounts in Diablo or PoE require multiple people playing the account to win a leveling race.” So... yeah.

It’s not just his gameplay that’s attracting heat. Musk’s role in the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—which has reportedly laid off over 280,000 federal employees—has drawn increasing criticism, and many viewers saw the livestream as the perfect opportunity to air their frustrations.

Though the stream has since been deleted from X, clips of the meltdown have been preserved and are now circulating across YouTube and Reddit, fueling a fresh wave of online schadenfreude.

What began as a promotional flex turned into a public L. Maybe next time, Elon, just test Starlink in peace—and leave the tutorial boss alone.
