Epic Games has announced that players can get refunds on Fortnite cosmetics tied to singer D4vd, after the artist was charged with the murder of a 14-year-old girl and possession of child sexual abuse material.
David Anthony Burke, who performs under the name D4vd, was arrested and charged this week in connection with the killing of Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
According to prosecutors, Burke engaged in a sexual relationship with Celeste that began when she was just 13 years old. Authorities allege he killed her to prevent her from reporting the relationship and to protect his music career.
He has been charged with first-degree murder with special circumstances of lying in wait, continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14, unlawful mutilation of human remains, and allegedly killing a witness to an investigation.
Burke has pleaded not guilty, with his legal team stating that evidence would show he was not the cause of her death.
The case took a further disturbing turn when prosecutors revealed that a significant amount of child pornography was found on Burke's iCloud account. As per reports by the Los Angeles Times, the images were discovered after police executed a search warrant on the singer's phone and iCloud storage during their investigation into Celeste's death. Her dismembered remains were found in September in the trunk of a Tesla registered to Burke, which had been abandoned in the Hollywood Hills.
For those who may not know, D4vd had a notable connection to Fortnite long before he became a mainstream artist. He started out uploading his music alongside Fortnite montages, which is how he first built his fanbase. That history eventually led to a full-blown collaboration with Epic Games, resulting in in-game cosmetics, emotes, and two jam packs in April 2025. His track "Locked and Loaded" was even named an official Fortnite anthem, making the partnership pretty significant by any measure.
Now, with the charges coming to light, Epic Games has moved quickly to address player concerns. The company confirmed that starting April 28, 2026, anyone who purchased items from the D4vd collaboration will be eligible for an immediate self-service refund.
"We hear the concerns," Epic wrote on Twitter/X. "We have a bunch of changes we're rolling out over time. The first one will be available on Tuesday April 28th, when anyone who purchased one of these items will be able to get an immediate self-service refund. And, right now, players who request refunds for D4vd cosmetics via player support can be refunded."
It is worth noting that Epic has not yet confirmed whether the cosmetics will be removed from the game entirely. That part of the conversation is still ongoing, and many in the community are expecting a full removal at some point.
A hearing has been scheduled for next week, where prosecutors are expected to publicly present their evidence against Burke.
