Amazon's Fallout TV Show Planned for Five to Six Seasons

The popular Fallout TV series on Amazon Prime Video will likely run for five to six seasons in total, giving fans years of post-apocalyptic adventures to look forward to.

Actor Aaron Moten, who plays Maximus in the show, revealed this information during an interview at Comic Con Liverpool. He explained that when he signed on for the role, the creators shared both the starting point and endpoint of the series with him.

"That endpoint hasn't changed, but it is season five, season six, type of endpoint," Moten said. "We've always known that we're going to take our time with the development of the characters."

The news comes as production on the second season of Fallout recently wrapped up. The first season of Fallout was a huge success for Amazon when it premiered in April 2024, pulling in 65 million viewers within its first 16 days. The show quickly earned a renewal for a second season, with executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy of Kilter Films expressing excitement about continuing the story.

Fans of the video game series have more to look forward to in the upcoming season. According to Moten, Deathclaws – fearsome mutated creatures from the games – will appear in season two.

Additionally, new cast members are joining the show, including Kumail Nanjiani, who will reportedly play "a high-ranking official within the Brotherhood of Steel," and Macaulay Culkin as "a crazy genius-type character."

The second season will take viewers to locations inspired by the popular game Fallout: New Vegas, expanding the show's universe even further. While only the second season has been officially greenlit so far, the strong viewership and positive reception make additional seasons likely.

As per Reddit users, the current production schedule of approximately two years per season means that completing all six seasons could take more than a decade.

The success of the TV adaptation has also brought many new players to the video game series. According to Variety, Fallout 76 has now crossed 20 million players, a significant jump from 17 million before the show’s release.

Daily active users across multiple Fallout titles skyrocketed by 600%, with Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 ranking among the top seven first-party Xbox Game Pass games at that time. Bethesda’s Todd Howard even noted that this level of engagement is beyond anything he’s seen in his 30-year career.

With the creators having mapped out character arcs through to the finale, viewers can expect a carefully planned and coherent story across the show's entire run, avoiding the pitfalls that have affected other adaptations that lacked similar long-term vision.
