Level-5’s cozy RPG spin-off finds early global success, with more content on the way.

Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time has already passed a major milestone, selling over 500,000 copies worldwide just two days after its official launch on May 22.
The figure includes sales across Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, and marks a strong comeback for the long-dormant franchise.
Level-5 shared the news in a celebratory post on its official channels, accompanied by a commemorative illustration of Rem, Princess of Mysteria.
A Surprisingly Strong Start for a Long-Awaited Sequel
The game is a sequel to the original Fantasy Life from 2012 and lets players mix-and-match 14 different “Lives” (jobs), from crafting and gathering to combat, while exploring a mysterious island across 1,000 years of time.
Despite delays and development shakeups—including the departure of longtime producer Keiji Inafune—Fantasy Life i has managed to resonate with fans old and new.
Its Deluxe Edition shot to the top of the Nintendo eShop charts this week, while the Standard Edition currently sits in the top three.
On Steam, the game reached over 45,000 concurrent players at launch and maintains a “Very Positive” user rating based on 3,000+ reviews.
Free DLC “Update the World!” Announced
In response to the strong global reception, Level-5 has announced that a free DLC expansion, titled “Update the World!”, is in development.
“We have decided to release a free DLC that includes new recipes as well as expanded content... due to the game's global success and the warm support from players around the world,” the developer said in a statement.
The DLC will:
Introduce new recipes,
Add features that make better use of high-rarity weapons found in Treasure Groves and other in-game sources,
And further extend the game’s endgame possibilities.
While a specific release date is not yet confirmed, Level-5 says it’s aiming to release the update “as soon as possible.”
500K Celebration Campaign
To commemorate hitting half a million sales, Level-5 is launching a special giveaway campaign. Prizes include:
A limited-edition illustration of Rem,
A free game code for Fantasy Life i on a platform of the winner’s choice.
Details are available on the game’s official X (formerly Twitter) account: @FANTASYLIFE_EN.
More to Come from Level-5
Level-5 isn’t done yet. In a recent developer post, CEO Akihiro Hino hinted that Fantasy Life i’s success could help bolster the rest of the studio’s lineup. Several other titles from its 2023 showcase are still in the pipeline, including:
DecaPolice, a futuristic detective RPG,
And Professor Layton and the New World of Steam.
A Nintendo Switch 2 version of Fantasy Life i is also in the works.
