Netflix has announced a new FIFA-licensed football game that will launch ahead of the 2026 World Cup, available exclusively through Netflix Games.

This marks FIFA’s return to the gaming space after its long-standing partnership with EA Sports ended in December 2022. EA produced one final FIFA-branded game, FIFA 23, released in September 2022, which included the 2022 FIFA World Cup and extended coverage through the 2023 Women's World Cup.

After that, EA launched EA Sports FC 24 in 2023 under a new brand, retaining licenses for leagues, teams, players, and stadiums from over 300 partners (e.g., Premier League, Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League), but without the "FIFA" name.

Reports at the time suggested the separation was driven by disagreements over licensing fees, with FIFA allegedly seeking over $1 billion for a four‑year deal.

While early rumors hinted at a possible 2K soccer project, it is Netflix that has now stepped forward with an official collaboration with FIFA.

The upcoming title is being developed and published by Delphi Interactive. The game is designed to let Netflix members “experience the emotion and drama of the tournament in its purest, most joyful form.”

According to the press release, it will be “fast to learn, thrilling to master, and built for anyone to jump in,” offering both solo and online play. The only requirements are a Netflix subscription and a smartphone.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed excitement about the partnership, stating: “FIFA is very excited to team up with Netflix Games and Delphi Interactive ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026. This major collaboration is a key milestone in FIFA’s commitment to innovation in the football gaming space, which aspires to reach billions of football fans of all ages everywhere in the world and will be redefining the pure notion of simulation games.”

He added that the game will be free for Netflix members and represents “the beginning of a new era of digital football.”

The game won’t be coming to PlayStation, Xbox, or PC, making Netflix Games its exclusive platform. However, this also leaves the door open for other publishers, like 2K, to secure licenses for it.

While gameplay details remain limited, the project appears to be closely tied to the World Cup itself, with a release expected before June 11, 2026—the date of the opening match between Mexico and South Africa.
