G2 Esports has won the VCT Americas Stage 1 championship by beating Sentinels 3-1 in the Grand Final on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
The victory marks another impressive achievement for G2, adding to their growing list of titles in the 2025 VALORANT Champions Tour season.
This win secures them 10 VCT Points and guarantees them a direct seed in the Playoffs at the upcoming Masters Toronto event.
The VCT Americas Stage 1 tournament ran from March 21st to May 4th, featuring 12 teams from across the Americas region.
G2’s journey in the tournament:
5-0 in Group Stage (Omega Group).
Only loss: Upper Bracket Semifinal vs. Sentinels (1-2).
Lower Bracket Run: Took down Evil Geniuses (2-1) and MIBR (3-1) before revenge vs. Sentinels.
Grand Final Recap: G2 3-1 Sentinels
In the best-of-five Grand Final rematch, G2 proved they had learned from their earlier loss.
Map Scores:
Haven (13-9 G2)
Split (13-9 G2)
Pearl (10-13 Sentinels)
Ascent (13-10 G2)
Twenty-year-old Trent 'trent' Cairns was named Match MVP with an impressive 73 kills and a +22 kill/death/assist ratio. After the victory, he shared his excitement on social media:
"Ggs 3-1 STAGE 1 CHAMPIONS and back-to-back domestic champions. So proud of this team and all the hard work that we've put in for this split. Shout out to my team for everything we've been through."
According to Esports Charts, the Grand Final attracted significant viewer interest, with over 300,000 peak viewers for the first game. While this figure is lower than the 435,000 viewers recorded during the Kickoff 2025 and the 394,000 for Stage 1 2024, it still demonstrates strong audience engagement for Valorant esports in the Americas region.
This championship continues G2's impressive run in the 2025 season. They previously won the Americas Kickoff in February (also defeating Sentinels in that final) and finished as runners-up at Masters Bangkok in March, where they narrowly lost 3-2 to T1.
With this victory, G2 has strengthened their position at the top of the Americas standings with a total of 16 VCT Points, now leading Sentinels by 7 points (16-9). This advantage is crucial as the top two teams from each region (Americas, China, and EMEA) will automatically qualify for the VALORANT Champions world championship tournament scheduled to take place in Paris beginning in September.
The final standings for VCT Americas Stage 1 are:
G2 Esports (10 Americas Points)
Sentinels (7 Points)
MIBR (6 Points)
Evil Geniuses (4 Points)
100 Thieves (3 Points)
KRU Esports (4 Points)
NRG (2 Points)
Cloud9 (3 Points)
2Game Esports (1 Point)
Leviatan (1 Point)
LOUD and FURIA
In addition to G2 and Sentinels, MIBR also qualified for Masters Toronto after finishing third in the VCT Americas Stage 1. The Masters Toronto event will run from June 7th to 22nd and feature 12 international teams competing for a prize pool of $1 million (approximately £769,171).
