A 12-year-old boy from Delhi, India, suffered serious health problems like partial paralysis and a severely bent spine after becoming addicted to the mobile game BGMI (localised version of PUBG).
The child had been playing the game for up to 12 hours daily, isolating himself in his room and avoiding school and outdoor activities.
According to doctors at the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC) in Delhi, the boy developed a serious spinal deformity along with spinal tuberculosis that went undiagnosed for months. His condition deteriorated to the point where he had difficulty walking and could not control his bladder properly.
The medical team performed a high-risk spinal correction surgery using advanced technology. The procedure was successful, and within days, the young patient began regaining control of his legs and bladder functions.
The treatment didn't end with surgery. Reports from ISIC indicate that the boy is now undergoing intensive physiotherapy and psychological counseling to address both the physical damage and the emotional aspects of his gaming addiction.
Healthcare professionals are noting a troubling trend of similar cases. As per the medical team's observations, they are seeing increasing numbers of children with not only spinal problems but also anxiety, social withdrawal, and behavioral changes related to excessive screen time and poor posture during extended gaming sessions.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the potential physical health consequences of digital addiction, which often go unnoticed until they become severe. Medical experts suggest that parents should monitor their children's screen time and encourage regular physical activity and social interaction.
