A new Gears of War collection is in development but will not include competitive multiplayer, focusing instead on campaign co-op gameplay, according to multiple sources.
Fresh details about the upcoming collection emerged when Detective Seeds shared on social media platform X that the game had appeared in the PlayStation Store backend. The leak suggests the game will be released around August 2025 and will concentrate solely on campaign content rather than including the series' popular competitive multiplayer modes.
This information has now been backed up by well-known industry insider Jez Corden. "I, too, have heard no multiplayer," Corden posted on X. When asked specifically about whether cooperative campaign play would be included, he confirmed, "Yeah, co-op, but not PvP, is what I heard." Corden mentioned he is continuing to investigate these rumors to uncover more concrete information.
Additional details came from leaker eXtas1s, who claimed in a recent YouTube video that the Gears of War Collection will be officially unveiled during this year's Xbox Showcase. According to his sources, the collection will launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC - marking a significant change as Gears has traditionally been an Xbox exclusive franchise.
The video also touched on the upcoming Gears of War E-Day, reportedly scheduled for release in 2026, though eXtas1s noted there's a "slim" possibility it could be moved up to 2025.
The Gears of War franchise has been a cornerstone of Xbox gaming since the original game launched in 2006, becoming known for its cover-based combat and gritty sci-fi storytelling. The upcoming collection is a rumored remastered compilation of the original Gears of War trilogy.
