Gex Trilogy Making a Return This June with Modern Upgrades and Collectible Editions

Gex Trilogy

Crystal Dynamics' beloved gecko mascot from the 1990s is leaping back into action as the Gex Trilogy prepares for release on modern platforms.

Limited Run Games has announced that this collection of nostalgic platformers will arrive digitally on June 16, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The collection brings together the original 1995 2D platformer "Gex" along with its two 3D sequels, "Gex: Enter the Gecko" (1998) and "Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko" (1999).

While not a full remaster, the trilogy comes with several quality-of-life improvements to make these classics more enjoyable for modern players.

According to Limited Run Games, these enhancements include native widescreen support, save states, and a rewind feature that lets players undo mistakes.

The 3D games have also been rebuilt with full 360-degree analog control, replacing the original 8-directional movement system for smoother gameplay.

"Gex was always one smooth reptile, but now he feels slicker than a slimy salamander, controlling better than ever before," states Limited Run Games.

The collection also packs bonus content for fans, including classic advertisements, a music player, and a new interview with Dana Gould, who voiced Gex in the North American versions of the games.

For collectors who prefer physical media, Limited Run Games is offering three different editions. Pre-orders open on May 9 and will remain available until July 6, 2025, with shipping expected later this year.

The Standard Edition costs $39.99 and includes the game disc or cartridge depending on platform.

The $74.99 Classic Edition adds a Steelbook case, a reversible poster, a soundtrack selection CD, and a retro-style box designed to resemble the original PlayStation packaging.

For the most dedicated fans, the Tail Time Edition is available for $199.99. This premium package includes everything from the Classic Edition (with an upgraded full soundtrack CD) plus several exclusive collectibles. Most notably, it features a 36-inch inflatable Gex doll, a 7-inch Gex statue, trading cards, and a collector's box with artwork by renowned Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano.

Crystal Dynamics has moved on to other projects since the Gex days, currently assisting Microsoft with the development of a Perfect Dark reboot and working on a new Tomb Raider game in partnership with Amazon.

As reported earlier this year, the studio unfortunately experienced layoffs, and recent news suggests that the planned Tomb Raider TV series written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge may have been canceled.

The Gex character became famous in the 1990s for his wise-cracking personality and pop culture references as he jumped between television-themed worlds. With this re-release, a new generation of players will have the chance to experience these cult classics with modern conveniences, while longtime fans can indulge in some serious nostalgia.
