Ghost of Yotei, the highly anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, will offer a similarly expansive experience in terms of story, exploration, and completion time, according to developer Sucker Punch. The studio confirmed that players can expect the same level of scale and ambition that defined the original 2020 release.

The update comes via a recent interview with VGC, where Ghost of Yotei’s creative director Jason Connell revealed that the team intentionally designed the game with comparable numbers in mind. “We designed the game in mind with some of the similar numbers, in terms of scale and scope of the last experience,” Connell explained. He added that this approach helped create a satisfying structure and allowed the team to build from a solid foundation.

For those wondering how long it’ll take to beat the game, Connell noted that finishing the main storyline should take roughly 25 hours—just like Ghost of Tsushima. But if you're the kind of player who explores every corner or chases the Platinum trophy, expect to spend closer to 60 hours in the game world.

“We feel that the experience of playing through Ghost of Yotei, whether you’re just ripping through the story, or you’re somebody that likes to just go through the whole world and explore, or you’re that hardcore platinum chaser – that it is a similar experience [to that of Ghost of Tsushima], we expect, in terms of the time commitment,” Connell added (Thanks Insider Gaming).

Sucker Punch previously confirmed that Ghost of Yotei will push player freedom even further than before. Instead of strictly following objective markers, the game will encourage organic exploration, allowing players to follow their instincts and uncover the world at their own pace. This design choice ties in well with the game’s new protagonist, fresh setting in Hokkaido, and a revamped combat system featuring weapons like the Odachi and Matchlock Rifle.

First shown during PlayStation’s State of Play, Ghost of Yotei made a strong impression with its gritty tone, brutal melee sequences, and visually striking environments. Fans of the first game will likely find themselves right at home, while newcomers can still dive into the experience with a fresh narrative and evolved mechanics.

Ghost of Yotei is going to launch on October 2, 2025, and it will be PlayStation 5 exclusive. The Collector’s Edition is now available for pre-order globally.
