GTA 6 Wanted System Reportedly Overhauled with Realistic Crime Mechanics

Grand Theft Auto VI is rumored to feature a major overhaul of its wanted system, taking inspiration from the realism of Red Dead Redemption 2’s law enforcement mechanics.
A More Realistic Approach to Law Enforcement
According to recent leaks circulating on social media, GTA 6’s police system may go beyond the classic star-based chases we’re used to. Instead, law enforcement will reportedly recognize players by their clothing, catch them on CCTV cameras, and act on eyewitness reports.
In true Rockstar fashion, though, there may be ways to avoid capture, through bribery, intimidation, or silencing witnesses before they alert the authorities.
This system mirrors Red Dead Redemption 2’s dynamic bounty system, where every crime could ripple through the world in ways that felt organic. If true, GTA 6 could bring that same level of immersion to its Vice City-inspired urban setting.
The claims largely come from Tez2 (probably an old post), a well-known figure in the GTA community. Tez2 has a track record of leaking information about Rockstar projects, some of which later proved accurate, such as details around GTA Online’s age verification updates and early GTA 6 domain registrations.
Expanding the Crime System
In addition to the wanted system changes, Tez2 has also suggested that minor infractions, like riding a bike without a helmet, could return in GTA 6. While this might sound small, it could feed into a broader system where even low-level crimes carry weight.
Reports note that this idea has been floating in Rockstar’s files since GTA 3 and GTA IV but was never fully implemented. With GTA 6, Rockstar might finally flesh out those concepts.
With the game set to release on May 26, 2026, fans won’t have to wait too long to find out how much of this new system makes it into the final product. Until then, approach the information with a grain of salt.
