Hideo Kojima's Next Game 'Physint' Won't Release for 5-6 Years

Game designer Hideo Kojima has shared that his upcoming action espionage game, Physint, won’t be hitting shelves for another five to six years.

In a recent interview with French magazine Le Film Français, Kojima opened up about what’s next for him. “Besides Death Stranding 2, there’s Physint in development. That’ll take me another five or six years,” he said.

The 61-year-old creator also hinted at what could come after games: a movie. “Maybe after that, I could finally decide to tackle a film. I grew up with cinema. Directing would be a kind of homage to it. Besides, I’m getting older, and I’d rather do it while I still feel young,” Kojima shared (Thanks VGC).

Physint was first announced back in January 2024 during a PlayStation State of Play. Kojima described it as a “brand-new, original IP” and a “next-generation action espionage game.” Naturally, fans started drawing comparisons to Metal Gear, the legendary series Kojima is best known for.

Kojima also shared that the inspiration for Physint actually came during the pandemic. “When I became sick during the pandemic, I realized a lot of people wanted me to make something like Metal Gear. That’s when I had the idea for a new espionage game,” he explained.

He took that idea to Sony, who was “incredibly supportive.” The two sides explored a bunch of options before finally landing on Physint.

Right now, Kojima’s focused on wrapping up Death Stranding 2, which is shaping up to be one of the biggest games of 2025. He’s also juggling OD, a horror game in development with Microsoft, which will probably come out before Physint.

Given the timeline he’s laid out, Physint likely won’t arrive until 2029 or 2030, by which time Kojima will be in his late 60s. That long development cycle has fans wondering which console generation it’ll be released on. A previously leaked Sony document hinted the PlayStation 6 wouldn’t drop until at least 2027, meaning Physint could end up being a cross-gen or next-gen title.
