Hogwarts Legacy has officially crossed 40 million units sold across all platforms, marking another major milestone for Warner Bros. Games.
The open-world action RPG, developed by Avalanche Software under the Portkey Games label, is set in the 1800s wizarding world. Players step into the role of a fifth-year Hogwarts student, exploring iconic locations, discovering magical beasts, crafting potions, and mastering spells. The adventure places players at the center of an original story, where their character holds the key to an ancient secret threatening the wizarding world.
When the game launched in early 2023, it sold 12 million copies within just two weeks. By the end of that year, sales had climbed to 22 million, making it the best-selling game of 2023 and breaking Call of Duty’s 15-year streak as the top-selling U.S. title. By October 2024, sales reached 30 million, and now, nearly a year later, the game has added another 10 million units to its tally.
The confirmation of the 40 million milestone came via the game’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, where developers expressed gratitude to the community for their support. Fans quickly responded with requests for future content, ranging from co-op multiplayer in the sequel to modding tools for consoles and even DLC expansions for the current game.
Hogwarts Legacy is available across nearly all major platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch (including Switch 2).
Looking ahead, Warner Bros. Games is now focusing on the sequel. Hogwarts Legacy 2 was confirmed to be in production last year, though no gameplay footage or release timeline has been shared yet. There were also reports of a Definitive Edition of the original game, but that project was later cancelled.
