Guerrilla Games is reportedly developing a third mainline entry in the Horizon series, with a targeted release window of 2027, according to industry sources.
The sequel is said to follow the studio’s upcoming multiplayer Horizon title, which remains the current production priority.
The report comes from insider TCMF Games, who shared via social media that Horizon 3 is “currently in development” and will likely center around Nemesis, a mysterious threat teased at the end of Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores.
The third entry could potentially launch across both PlayStation 5 and the anticipated PlayStation 6, suggesting it may serve as a cross-generation release.
Multiplayer Horizon Game Comes First
Guerrilla’s multiplayer Horizon project is expected to arrive before the single-player sequel. Earlier this year, the studio posted a job listing hinting at the scale of its ambition: a live-service experience with plans to attract over one million players.
The title has been in active development for several years and will mark the franchise’s first foray into cooperative online gameplay.
This roadmap aligns with previous reporting from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who noted in 2023 that Horizon 3 was in the pipeline but would follow the multiplayer release.
A PlayStation Powerhouse
Since its debut in 2017, the Horizon series has sold over 30 million copies and firmly established itself as a flagship PlayStation IP.
The franchise has also expanded beyond games. A live-action movie adaptation is currently in development.
While Guerrilla Games has not officially confirmed about the sequal, the studio's continued investment in the Horizon universe demonstrates the franchise's importance to Sony's gaming strategy moving forward.
