Platforms and Cross-Play

  • PS5

  • Xbox Series X|S

  • PC (Steam, with Xbox Play Anywhere support)

Full cross-play is supported across all three platforms.

The Story Mode

The narrative side of things sounds surprisingly ambitious. According to the developers, the story mode was crafted with direct input from Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker, the original creators of the comic. The mode is designed to feel like "a playable episode" of the animated show, clocking in at roughly one hour.

It features new story beats built around themes of heroism, family, and violence. Most of the original voice cast is back, including Gillian Jacobs as Atom Eve and J.K. Simmons as Omni-Man. There is also an original character introduced in the story called Ella Mental, who is also part of the playable roster.

Gameplay Breakdown

At its core, Invincible VS is a 3v3 tag fighter. The centerpiece mechanic is the Omni-Tag system, which lets you switch between characters mid-combo. This opens up extended attack strings, escape options, and counter plays. If you have ever played Marvel vs. Capcom or have any Killer Instinct background, some of this will feel familiar, though the developers have clearly put their own stamp on it.

The fighting styles are varied. The roster includes rushdown fighters, zoning characters, and others built around specific archetypes that encourage team-building strategy.

On top of that, you have signature superhuman moves, Ultimate finishers, destructible arenas, and some genuinely over-the-top gore and overkill effects. It leans into the violence of the source material without holding back.

Modes available at launch include Story, Arcade, Training, and online competitive and casual multiplayer. Rollback netcode is confirmed for online play. Local multiplayer is also supported in a 2v2 format.

That said, the roster does have some conspicuous gaps. Angstrom Levy is perhaps the most glaring omission. The Mauler Twins not making the cut is also a bit of a surprise. Shrinking Rae, Darkwing, and Shapesmith are also absent. With more characters planned as DLC, there is a good chance many of them will show up eventually.

  • Summer 2026: Universa and The Immortal (both releasing together)
