James Gunn has confirmed that DC video games are part of the long-term plans at Warner Bros. Games, though fans will need to be patient before seeing the results.

In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, the DC Studios co-CEO and Superman director revealed that while "a couple of little DC games" are on the way, the studio is also laying the groundwork for "bigger things." Gunn hinted at one game in particular that excites him, though he stressed that these ideas are still in the "early stage of planning."

He also acknowledged that recent restructuring at Warner Bros. Games has slowed progress, with new leadership and shifting priorities affecting development.

The shake-ups he referred to go back to last year, when WB Games decided to focus heavily on four key franchises: Mortal Kombat, Harry Potter, DC, and Game of Thrones. This change came after major setbacks, including the disappointing launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League from Rocksteady Studios and the eventual shutdown of MultiVersus. The restructuring also led to the cancellation of the Wonder Woman game and the closure of studios like Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego.

Despite these hurdles, Gunn and fellow DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran have been actively working with developers such as NetherRealm (known for Injustice) and Rocksteady (famous for the Batman Arkham series) to ensure the upcoming games tie into the broader DC Universe. According to Safran, during a presentation earlier this year (via IGN), both executives reviewed early designs and story ideas to help align video game narratives with future DCU films and shows.

One particularly intriguing detail mentioned by GamesRadar+ is the possibility of Superman actor David Corenswet reprising his role in a video game. If this happens, it would mark a big step toward DC’s vision of creating a connected universe where actors portray their characters consistently across movies, shows, and games.

Still, fans shouldn’t expect to play these new titles anytime soon. Gunn and Safran have both said it will be “a couple of years” before the first DCU-linked games are ready.

In the meantime, Warner Bros. Games is moving ahead with Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, revealed at gamescom 2025. While some fans are divided over its limited roster, the game has already gained attention for recreating iconic Batman movie moments and featuring combat reminiscent of the Arkham series.

For now, DC fans will have to keep their excitement in check. The vision is clearly there, and the foundation is being built — but Gunn’s comments make it clear that the big DC gaming push is still on the horizon rather than right around the corner.
