Keiichiro Toyama, the celebrated mind behind Silent Hill and Siren, has confirmed that Bokeh Game Studio is officially working on its next title.

This comes after the launch of Slitterhead, the studio’s debut project, which was released in November 2024. While the game didn’t quite meet the commercial expectations the team had hoped for, it has gained recognition as a cult favorite among fans — a reception Toyama is both reflective and optimistic about.

In a recent interview with Japanese outlet Famitsu, Toyama opened up about the mixed performance of Slitterhead, his vision behind founding Bokeh Game Studio, and what lies ahead. According to him, the initial goal was to create a game that could generate strong sales, but the result was something more niche — a title caught between genres. “There was some confusion about whether Slitterhead was a horror game or an action game,” he acknowledged.

Despite this, Toyama expressed satisfaction with how the team was able to express its individuality and creativity — something that often gets lost in large AAA productions. He emphasized that Bokeh Game Studio isn’t solely driven by financial metrics, but rather by the opportunity to explore unfiltered ideas and establish a unique creative identity.

Toyama also touched on personal concerns about time and legacy. “As for how long we’ll be able to continue, it becomes a difficult topic, especially if we take my age into consideration,” he said, adding that part of his mission now is to pass the torch to younger creators within the studio. Bokeh, as he sees it, is still in the early stages of fulfilling its broader vision.

The exciting part? A new game is already in development, though details remain tightly under wraps. Toyama confirmed, “We have started working on our next title. I can’t reveal the exact details... but we’ll be able to share more in the future.” He hinted that the new project aligns with the studio’s long-term goals of embracing a wider range of genres and incorporating input from younger team members. In fact, Toyama even mentioned that Bokeh could experiment with more light-hearted or unconventional ideas — a notable shift from his horror-heavy legacy.

While Slitterhead may not be getting a direct sequel anytime soon, the studio isn’t done with pushing creative boundaries. As per reports by Automaton, Toyama remains focused on ensuring Bokeh continues to evolve and find its footing in a crowded industry.

Stay tuned — Bokeh Game Studio is far from done.
