Atlus' original RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio has officially crossed the 2 million units sold mark worldwide.
The milestone comes nearly 9 months after the game’s launch in October 2024, where it made headlines for selling over 1 million copies on its very first day. This early success made it the fastest-selling title in Atlus’ history, fueled largely by fans familiar with the developer’s Persona franchise. However, the more gradual growth since then suggests the title has had a slower adoption rate among broader audiences.
According to data previously leaked by Sega, the game is performing just shy of Persona 3 Reload, which reached 2.07 million units, but still far behind Persona 5 Royal's massive 7.25 million.
To mark the occasion, Atlus released a celebratory illustration of the game’s protagonist, drawn by longtime character designer Shigenori Soejima.
Additionally, the studio is offering a 40% discount on Metaphor: ReFantazio via the PlayStation Store. This limited-time offer applies to both PS5 and PS4 versions and will run until August 13, 2025.
Critically, Metaphor: ReFantazio received high praise at launch (94/100 on Metacritic). Reviewers highlighted Atlus’ signature style blended with a bold new fantasy setting. Its UI design, character work, and thematic ambition have even sparked discussions about how the studio could grow beyond Persona.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is available now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
