New Concept Art Surfaces for Canceled Batman Game Starring Damian Wayne

A newly uncovered batch of concept art has brought renewed attention to Project Sabbath, a canceled Batman game that was reportedly in development at WB Games Montréal around 2017. The title would have followed Damian Wayne, son of Bruce Wayne, as the new Dark Knight in a post-Arkham Knight Gotham — but the project never made it to release.

Although Project Sabbath was never officially announced by Warner Bros., information about it has gradually leaked over the past few years. The most recent development comes in the form of concept art shared by Rodrigue Pralier, a former principal character artist at WB Games Montréal. These images give fans a closer look at key characters, including a visibly aged Bruce Wayne, Damian Wayne in a new batsuit, a redesigned Killer Croc, and Huntress. The art was discovered on Pralier’s ArtStation page and later shared by fan pages like Batman Arkham Videos.

According to these visuals, Bruce Wayne appears older and injured, using a cane — a look reminiscent of Batman Beyond’s timeline. Meanwhile, Damian's appearance includes a sleek, more agile Batsuit, facial scars, and blue eyes. This visual shift indicated a new artistic direction, potentially deviating from the classic Arkham style.

Project Sabbath was reportedly intended as the fifth installment in the Batman Arkham series and would have taken place a decade after Batman: Arkham Knight. While not much of its gameplay or story structure has been revealed, it was believed to combine elements from Batman Beyond, with Damian Wayne taking the lead in a future Gotham. The game also allegedly featured other characters such as the daughter of Black Mask, a revived Poison Ivy, and an alternate version of Two-Face known as “The Judge.”

Unfortunately, Project Sabbath was shelved in favor of other titles, most notably Gotham Knights, which launched in 2022. That game featured the Batman family but excluded Bruce Wayne, and it failed to resonate with critics and fans alike. Some speculate that the lukewarm reception to Gotham Knights only adds to the frustration over what Project Sabbath might have delivered.

This isn’t the only major DC-related project to get the axe. Earlier in 2025, Warner Bros. also canceled a planned Wonder Woman game from Monolith Productions. Latest cancellations reflect a shift in strategy as WB reportedly re-centers its gaming division around core franchises like Batman, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and Harry Potter.

Adding to the curiosity, a job posting from earlier this year hinted that Rocksteady — the studio behind the original Arkham trilogy — might be working on a new single-player Batman game. However, there's no confirmation whether this potential title will include Damian Wayne or have any links to the Project Sabbath concept.

Despite the leaks and rumors, neither WB Games nor Rocksteady have officially commented on the concept art or the future of the Arkhamverse. And while the art isn’t confirmation of a revival, it has stirred significant interest among longtime fans of the franchise.
