New World Fans Launch Petition as Amazon Ends MMO Support

A fan petition to save New World has already gathered more than 25,000 signatures, as players push Amazon Games to continue supporting the MMORPG.

The Change.org petition, which went live shortly after Amazon confirmed it would end active development of New World, urges the company to "reinstate the New World: Aeternum team."

According to the petition’s creator, the most recent patch “revitalized the community” and proved that ongoing updates still matter. The message urges Amazon to reconsider, stressing that without fresh content, the vibrant player base risks fading away.

Amazon has stated that servers will remain online until 2026, but the lack of future updates makes it clear the game is heading toward its sunset.

This decision comes amid wider layoffs at Amazon’s games division. One of the other casualties was an in‑development Lord of the Rings MMO, which many believe could have drawn a larger audience thanks to its iconic license.

From my perspective, petitions rarely reverse corporate decisions, but they do send a strong message. If nothing else, Amazon now knows that New World still has a passionate base. Some players are even hopeful that, once official servers shut down, Amazon might allow community‑run servers to keep Aeternum alive.

For now, you can still log in and enjoy the game. As a gesture of appreciation, Amazon has made the Nighthaven release free for everyone, while the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion is also free for PC players.

Im glad there are people covering the good fight. This game was on track to be one of the biggest mmos of all time (and the biggest comeback) but got cut off just as it was picking up. Corporate timing... Hopefully a smart company sees the potential and buys it

Thank you for your coverage in this matter! You're correct that the petition may not save the game, and it may be a bit of copium, but there's always that chance. New World was far from perfect, but as anyone who's played knows, its potential is far greater than anything else we've seen and FINALLY now that things seemed to be turning around, they pull the plug (to save money). Doing whatever we can to save this one-of-a-kind game makes it all worth it! There's nothing else out there like it.
