Nexus Mods is making some big changes to how adult content is handled on its platform, especially for users in the UK and EU.
These changes come in response to recent legislation like the UK’s Online Safety Act and the EU’s Digital Services Act.
In a new blog post titled “The Law and Adult Content”, Nexus Mods announced that age verification will soon be required for most adult content—but only for users based in the UK and EU. Everyone else will continue with the existing content access system, at least for now.
Nexus says it’s trying to strike a balance: keeping adult content available for those who are legally allowed to view it, while also making sure underage users are protected.
Alongside this, the platform will also update its Terms of Service to clearly define what counts as illegal content, especially when it comes to protecting children.
A revamped tagging system is also being introduced to help categorize adult-themed content more accurately. Some of the new tags include:
Pornographic
Extreme Violence
Harmful substances
Suicide
Self-harm
Depression
Body stigma
Eating disorders
Swearing or Profanity
Sexualised
On the safety front, Nexus Mods is implementing an automated detection tool to identify and remove any content related to Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). Offenders will be permanently banned and reported to the National Crime Agency, with no second chances.
There are also some user-facing updates in the works. The old “Blocked Authors” feature is being replaced by a new “Ignore” system, which is part of an overhaul to make block and mute functions clearer and easier to use.
Some of these features are already live, while others will roll out gradually over the coming weeks. Nexus has promised to share more updates in its next monthly roundup, so modders and users alike should keep an eye out.
