Nintendo Shutdown Suyu and Sudachi Emulators

Nintendo has stepped up its fight against Nintendo Switch emulation by issuing new DMCA takedown requests aimed at two forks of the now‑defunct Yuzu emulator, known as Suyu and Sudachi. Discord shut down the servers tied to these projects, and GitHub removed related repositories connected to Switch decryption tools.

This latest crackdown directly follows Nintendo’s high‑profile lawsuit against Yuzu earlier this year, which ended in a $2.4 million settlement. As part of that agreement, Yuzu’s developers were forced to shut down their GitHub page and Discord server, while also agreeing not to collaborate with third parties on similar emulators. Although archived discussions from Yuzu’s Discord remain accessible, the project itself is gone for good.

The new takedowns also targeted specific GitHub projects. Among them was Sigpatch Updater, a tool that allowed users to bypass signature verification in Switch games, and Lockpick, which enabled the extraction and decryption of cryptographic keys from modded consoles. For Nintendo, these tools represent clear piracy enablers, and their removal is consistent with the company’s long‑standing stance on protecting its intellectual property.

Still, if you’ve been following the emulation scene, you’ll know the community isn’t giving up easily. The developers behind Suyu, for example, have already taken steps to avoid Yuzu’s fate. According to reports, they’ve implemented strict rules against piracy discussions on their Discord and moved their core files to services outside of Discord’s reach. They’ve even gone as far as setting up their own chat platform on their website after the takedown. Sudachi, meanwhile, still has its emulator files available on GitHub for now.
