Nintendo has announced that pre-orders for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console will begin on April 24 in the United States.
The company confirmed that despite recent concerns about tariffs, the console's launch price will remain at $449.99 as originally announced on April 2.
Pre-orders were initially scheduled to begin on April 9 but were delayed after President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on countries including China, Vietnam, and Japan. This prompted Nintendo to pause their plans while they assessed the potential impact of these tariffs on their pricing strategy.
In a statement on the Nintendo Blog, the company apologized for the pre-order delay, saying they "hope this reduces some of the uncertainty our customers may be experiencing." They also thanked customers for their patience and expressed shared excitement for the console's launch on June 5, 2025.
The Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will also maintain its previously announced price of $499.99.
Pricing for both physical and digital versions of launch titles Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) will remain unchanged as well.
However, Nintendo has made adjustments to the pricing of Switch 2 accessories "due to changes in market conditions." Most accessories have seen price increases ranging from $5 to $10 compared to the prices announced on April 2. For example, the Joy-Con 2 controllers were originally priced at $89.99 but will now cost $94.99.
Other notable accessory prices include:
Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller: $84.99
Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip: $39.99
Nintendo Switch 2 Camera: $54.99
Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set: $119.99
Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector: $39.99
Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99
Samsung microSD Express Card – 256 GB for Nintendo Switch 2 - $59.99
Nintendo has also warned that "other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions," suggesting that these prices may not be permanent if market conditions continue to change.
Reports indicate that Nintendo has allocated the majority of its Switch 2 consoles manufactured in Vietnam for U.S. customers, likely as a strategy to bypass the steepest of Trump's tariffs.
Bill Trinen, Nintendo's VP of Player & Product Experience, previously explained the Switch 2's higher price point by citing inflation and increased technology costs. "We're unfortunately living in an era where I think inflation is affecting everything," Trinen stated, adding that more advanced technology naturally drives additional costs.
The company has confirmed that the June 5 worldwide launch date remains unchanged. While the announcement addresses U.S. pre-orders, Nintendo has not yet confirmed whether this update affects Canada, where pre-orders were also delayed to align with U.S. availability.
For gamers unable to afford the Switch 2, Nintendo has suggested that the original Switch will continue to be supported for some time to come, offering a more affordable alternative.
