Blumhouse — the horror juggernaut behind M3GAN, The Black Phone, and Five Nights at Freddy’s — is teaming up with Atomic Monster to produce a feature film adaptation of Kinetic Games’ smash hit Phasmophobia.
From Indie Hit to Horror Blockbuster
Since its early access launch in 2020, Phasmophobia has gone from niche co-op experiment to a global phenomenon, selling over 23 million copies and earning a place among the best horror games. Its mix of psychological scares, team-based investigation, and immersive audio design has set the standard for ghost-hunting games in the genre.
And now, it’s making the jump from haunted houses to movie theaters. “It’s a big moment for the whole Kinetic team, and the start of something really exciting,” said Daniel ‘Dknighter’ Knight, director of Kinetic Games. “We never could’ve imagined the incredible heights this game would reach... Working with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster marks an incredible new chapter for the game.”
While no release date, director, writer, or casting details have been revealed just yet, the fact that Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are involved has fans buzzing. The two studios are known for crafting some of the most successful modern horror franchises — The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Nun — so expectations are high.
Meanwhile, in the Game… Big Updates Incoming
The Phasmophobia hype doesn’t stop at the silver screen. June 24 marks the release of the Chronicle update, which will rework the evidence system, overhaul the journal, and revamp progression. A shiny new Sound Recorder item is being added, and Grafton Farmhouse is getting a spooky redesign.
Looking further ahead, Kinetic Games’ 2025 roadmap teases a full player character overhaul, a new map, and seasonal content for Halloween and the holidays.
If you enjoy intense scares and teamwork, it’s worth trying, especially at $19.99 on Steam. It is also available on consoles like Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 since last October.
