PlayStation Plus Price Hike Hits Canada—And It's Not the Only Place

PlayStation Plus

Sony has quietly raised the price of PlayStation Plus across all tiers in Canada, marking another step in what’s starting to look like a global price adjustment campaign.

As of now, the Essential plan in Canada costs $109.99 CAD per year, up from $94.99 CAD—a 15.8% increase. The Extra tier jumps to $189.99 CAD annually from $154.99 CAD, a whopping 22.6% hike. And if you're on the Premium plan, brace yourself: it's now $224.99 CAD, up 18.4% from its previous $189.99 CAD.

These aren’t just small tweaks—they’re significant jumps, especially considering no new perks have been announced alongside them.

Canada isn’t the only region seeing higher prices. On April 10, Sony confirmed price increases in 15 Latin American countries, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Peru.

Within a day, they added Australia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong to the list. And just a few days later, on April 14, Sony announced that even PlayStation 5 hardware prices would rise in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

So yeah—it’s been a week.

What’s especially frustrating for some players is how Sony’s handling it. Instead of a formal announcement or press release, they’ve opted to update regional PlayStation Store pages and quietly notify current subscribers via email. The message? The increase helps Sony “continue bringing high-quality games and benefits” to the service. Not exactly detailed.

If you're in Canada and your subscription is up for renewal soon, expect to see the new prices kick in automatically. No action required—but definitely worth checking your renewal date if you want to make any changes before the hike hits.

With price bumps now confirmed in multiple regions, the big question is: who’s next? Sony hasn’t said if more countries are on deck, but if the past few weeks are any sign, global subscribers should be watching their inboxes closely.

Stay tuned—this probably isn’t the last we’ll hear about it.
