Sony is shutting down its PlayStation Stars loyalty program in its current form, wrapping things up after nearly three years of activity.
The program—which let PlayStation users earn reward points and digital collectibles—is no longer accepting new members starting now and will fully close by November 2026.
Grace Chen, VP of PlayStation, shared that the company ran an internal review to better understand what kinds of activities players actually enjoy. Based on those findings, Sony decided it was time to phase out the current version of PlayStation Stars and shift their focus elsewhere.
Launched back in July 2022, PlayStation Stars first rolled out in select regions before expanding to the UK and other markets later that same year.
It worked kind of like a cashback system: players could rack up points by buying games, finishing certain challenges, or taking part in PlayStation activities. Those points could then be redeemed for PSN wallet funds or other digital goodies from the PlayStation Store.
While it's the end of the line for the program as we know it, Chen said it served as a great learning experience. Sony now plans to take what they’ve learned to keep improving PlayStation services going forward—though no word yet on whether a new loyalty program is in the works.
The wind-down will happen gradually to give current users plenty of time to use up their rewards. As of now, no new sign-ups are being accepted. If any existing member decides to cancel, they won’t be able to rejoin, and they'll lose all the points they've collected.
Current members can still earn points, collectibles, and level up their status until July 23, 2025—with exact timing depending on your region. After that date, there won’t be any new campaigns or rewards added.
The program will stay semi-active until November 2, 2026, giving users time to redeem any unexpired points. As for the digital collectibles you’ve earned? Those will still be accessible even after everything else winds down.
