The May 2025 update for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium has landed—and it’s safe to say that not everyone is thrilled. While 10 new games have been added across both tiers, more titles are leaving than entering, and that’s left many subscribers questioning the value of their memberships.
📉 Fan Backlash Grows Over May 2025 Lineup
Sony’s monthly PS Plus refresh typically brings excitement, but this time, it's drawn more cancellations than celebration. Subscribers have taken to social media and forums to voice frustration, particularly over:
The limited content for Premium tier users
The removal of major titles, including several PlayStation-owned IPs
The continued lack of support for PlayStation VR2 titles
Many are calling May 2025’s update one of the weakest since the service's relaunch in June 2022.
🆕 New PS Plus Extra Games – May 2025
All of the following are available to Extra and Premium subscribers:
Battlefield 5 (PS4)
Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted – Full Time Edition (PS4/PS5)
Gloomhaven Mercenaries Edition (PS4/PS5)
Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising (PS4/PS5)
Humankind (PS4/PS5)
Sand Land (PS4/PS5)
Soul Hackers 2 (PS5)
STALKER: Legends of the Zone Trilogy (PS4/PS5)
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life (PS5)
These titles do bring some genre variety—from strategy to fighting to JRPGs—but fans argue it’s not enough to balance what’s been lost.
🎮 New PS Plus Premium Game – May 2025
Only one exclusive game has been added to the Premium tier:
Battle Engine Aquila (PS4/PS5)
A cult-classic PS2 mech shooter with mostly positive retro reviews
While Premium members can access all Extra titles as well, the lack of dedicated content for Sony’s most expensive tier continues to be a sore spot.
🚫 Major Titles Removed in May 2025
Some of the most surprising removals include:
Batman: Arkham Knight
Grand Theft Auto V
Infamous: Second Son
Resistance: Fall of Man
Resistance 2
The removal of Infamous and Resistance, both first-party Sony titles, has particularly confused fans. There’s no licensing issue to explain their removal, leading some to speculate whether remasters or reboots are in the works—or if it's simply poor content management.
👓 PlayStation VR2 Losses
PS VR2 users were hit especially hard, with The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners 1 & 2 and other popular VR titles pulled from the library. For those who invested in Sony’s latest headset, the Premium tier was one of the few consistent ways to try VR titles—making this month’s update feel like a step backward.
