PUBG: Battlegrounds will officially end support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 13, 2025, marking the game’s complete transition to current-generation consoles — PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The announcement was made by the PUBG team on Wednesday as part of its 2025 roadmap.
This move comes nearly seven years after PUBG first arrived on PS4 and Xbox One, back when it was still known as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. While the game went free-to-play in 2022, it has continued to maintain a strong player base on last-gen hardware. However, the developers believe it’s time to align PUBG Console with modern standards and upcoming updates.
Why the Transition Is Happening
According to the official statement, this change is aimed at delivering better visuals, more stable frame rates, and fewer crashes for console players. The studio also emphasized that the shift will create a smoother, more seamless experience for future updates.
In their words, this was "not a decision made lightly" but one taken after "long and careful consideration" to ensure the long-term growth of PUBG Console.
The update will also standardize performance across platforms. For example, Xbox Series S will offer two modes — Resolution Mode (1440p at 30fps) and Performance Mode (1080p at 60fps) — while the PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X will run at 60fps with dynamic 4K resolution on the higher-end models.
What This Means for Current Players
Once the live server maintenance ends on November 13, PUBG will no longer be downloadable or playable on PS4 and Xbox One. However, there’s good news for those planning to upgrade — all account data, items, and purchases will be preserved. Players can log in on a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S without any extra transfer process.
PlayStation users will need to re-download the PS5 version from the PlayStation Store, while Xbox users will receive the upgrade automatically through Smart Delivery.
As for refunds, PUBG confirmed that Battlegrounds Plus and other purchases will be handled according to each platform’s policies. The game has been free-to-play since 2022, but players who made premium purchases may be eligible for reimbursement.
