Rhythm roguelike action game Ratatan, developed by Ratata Arts and led by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani alongside composer Kemmei Adachi, will officially launch in Early Access on Friday, September 19, 2025.
The rollout begins at 12:00 a.m. JST / 3:00 p.m. UTC / 8:00 a.m. PDT, giving players across different time zones a simultaneous start.
The release date reveal came as a surprise during the exclusive Ratatan Play Session held on August 7 in Tokyo. The event gathered Japanese press members and streamers for hands-on gameplay with the latest build, followed by a developer talk session.

The game is often viewed as the spiritual successor to Patapon, but it adds a modern twist with deeper mechanics and more expansive battles.
Players will command small, charming warriors called Cobuns using rhythmic inputs to march, attack, defend, or retreat. The roguelike structure ensures each run feels fresh, thanks to randomized buffs, power-ups, and challenges.
The game also boasts massive on-screen battles, supporting over 100 characters at once, plus online co-op for up to four players. Recently revealed weapon types — including staves, bombs, scythes, and hammers — promise more tactical variety.
During the event, two new worlds were unveiled. Jam Jammer Jungle Journey introduces dense jungles, swamp hazards, and a looming ritual by the priestess Tolja So, while Frozen Flower Fantasia offers a seemingly beautiful spring garden turned icy battlefield under the rule of Glaciera.
Just ahead of launch, a special livestream will air on September 14 via the AGRS Channel on YouTube, hosted by voice actor Tomokazu Sugita. It will feature the latest updates, post-launch roadmap, and event details.
Producer Kazuto Sakajiri thanked fans, promising that Early Access will evolve with community feedback to “make this world an amazing one together.”
