Jim Ward, the voice of Captain Qwark and many iconic roles, has passed away at age 66.

Jim Ward, the veteran voice actor best known for bringing Ratchet & Clank’s Captain Qwark to life, has died at the age of 66.


The news was confirmed on December 10 by broadcaster Stephanie Miller, who shared that Ward’s wife informed her of his passing. Miller, his long-time co-host on The Stephanie Miller Show, described him as a “voice deity,” reflecting the admiration he earned throughout his career.


Ward’s contribution to the Ratchet & Clank series spanned decades, with his portrayal of Captain Qwark becoming one of the franchise’s most recognizable highlights. His booming delivery and comedic timing gave the character a unique charm that resonated with fans across multiple generations of PlayStation players.


Beyond Qwark, Ward’s career extended across animation, radio, and gaming. He voiced characters in Ben 10 (Diamondhead, XLR8, and Wildvine), The Fairly OddParents (Doug Dimmadome and Chet Ubetcha), Star Wars, Call of Duty, Fallout (The Sink, Dr Klein and later as Old Longfellow), Dota 2, Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2, RE4 & Darkside Chronicles (Jack Krauser), and Marvel Heroes, among many others.


His final video game credit was for Quake Champions in 2022.


Fans first became aware of Ward’s health struggles in 2021, when he stepped back from voice work due to complications related to Alzheimer’s disease. As per reports, this was also the reason he could not reprise his role in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.


Jim Ward’s passing marks the loss of a voice that defined countless childhoods and gaming memories. His performances ensured that Captain Qwark and many other characters will live on, remembered with both respect and affection by fans worldwide.
