Bungie had originally planned to release Marathon on September 23, 2025, but that date slipped following a Closed Alpha that drew mixed reactions. The delay also came in the wake of an art theft controversy and reports of internal leadership struggles, which left many fans wondering about the game’s future.

This week, Bungie launched a Closed Technical Test for Marathon, running from October 22 to 28, though it has now been extended to October 29. Only a limited number of players are participating under NDA, but according to official details, the test includes three maps, five runner shells, proximity voice chat, and solo queue options.

The game’s cinematic trailer, directed by Alberto Mielgo, had already revealed an impressive voice cast. Confirmed names include Erica Lindbeck (Glitch), Elias Toufexis (Void and also voice director), Nika Futterman (Blackbird), Donnla Hughes (ONI), and Ben Starr (narrator). Many fans suspect Starr is voicing Durandal, the infamous AI from the original Marathon trilogy, though Bungie hasn’t confirmed that theory.

Now, as reported by The Game Post, another major addition has been confirmed: Roger Clark, best known for his award-winning performance as Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2. Clark will voice General Davic Reed, a character Bungie has yet to officially reveal. It’s still unclear whether General Reed will play a central role in the story or serve more as a background figure, but Clark’s involvement alone has already raised expectations.

Clark’s performance in Red Dead Redemption 2 is still regarded as one of the best in gaming, and since then, he’s appeared in titles like Fort Solis. Bringing that same gravitas to Marathon could give the game’s narrative a serious boost.

As for pricing, Marathon is expected to release at around $40, making it more accessible than many AAA shooters. Bungie has promised a full development update in the coming months, likely after the technical test wraps up.
