Riot Games Reveals "Riftbound" Trading Card Game Based on League of Legends

Riftbound

Riot Games has officially revealed Riftbound, their new trading card game based on the popular League of Legends universe. Previously known as "Project K," this physical card game will feature characters and elements from the world of Runeterra.

The game's first set, called Origins, will include over 300 different cards when it launches. Players can expect to see many familiar faces from League of Legends, with champion cards serving as powerful centerpieces for deck building strategies.

According to the official Riftbound website, the game will support multiple ways to play, including one-on-one matches (1v1), team battles with two players on each side (2v2), and free-for-all multiplayer formats where everyone competes individually.

For newcomers to trading card games, Riot has designed an introductory product called Riftbound: Proving Grounds. This boxed set will contain starter decks featuring champions like Lux, Annie, Master Yi, and Garen, helping new players learn the basics of the game.

More experienced players can look forward to pre-constructed Champion Decks built around Viktor, Jinx, and Lee Sin. Other popular League champions making appearances in the first set include Annie, Garen, Yasuo, Volibear, Kai'Sa, and Ahri.

Beyond just champion characters, the card set will incorporate familiar elements from League of Legends gameplay, such as in-game items, runes, and spells. For collectors, special rare versions of champion cards with unique artwork will also be available.

Riot Games has partnered with UVS Games, an established distributor in the trading card game industry, to ensure Riftbound will be available in local game stores.

The release schedule shows Riftbound will debut first in China during summer 2025. Many English-speaking countries will see the game arrive on October 25, 2025, with additional global markets following in 2026.

This physical card game joins Riot's existing digital card game, Legends of Runeterra, expanding their offerings in the card game space. However, Riftbound appears to be designed specifically for tabletop play rather than digital platforms.

The announcement materials highlight how Riftbound's artwork offers fresh interpretations of League characters, rather than simply reusing their in-game champion portraits. Since the initial preview in December, the card designs have reportedly been refined based on player feedback.
