Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent conservative activist, was assassinated on September 10, 2025, during a campus event at Utah Valley University. He was 31 years old. In the aftermath of his death, Roblox quickly became part of the controversy when users started creating and sharing experiences that referenced or mocked the killing.
User-Created Games Spark Backlash
Within hours of the news, Roblox players uploaded experiences that allowed users to "relive" the shooting or participate in virtual rallies chanting that Kirk "deserved to die." Some players even designed avatar clothing mocking his death. Considering Roblox has more than 110 million daily active users, many of them under the age of 13, the presence of such content immediately raised red flags.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), who once worked closely with Kirk, was one of the first to publicly call out Roblox. In a post on X, she threatened to ask Apple to remove the Roblox app from its App Store and even involve the FCC if the content wasn’t taken down.
"I’ve just been notified that Roblox has a game on their platform referencing the assassination of Charlie Kirk. I’m going to be asking Apple and the AppStore to remove their app if they don’t immediately remove this, as well as contacting the FCC to take down their website," she wrote on September 11.
Other political figures also weighed in. Steve Bannon described the creators of these games as "sickos" and accused authorities of turning a blind eye to online radicalization.
"The governor of Utah must be investigated. He’s pushed this for years. Now, kids on Roblox were playing games reenacting Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Cox is not telling the truth. He’s part of the problem. When does the FBI roll him up? When do they roll the mother up?" Steve Bannon's statement with Warroom. "They are destroying our children, they are destroying them for money."

Roblox Responds with Mass Takedowns
Roblox moved quickly once the issue was flagged. A spokesperson confirmed to FOX that the moderation team had removed more than 100 experiences connected to Kirk’s assassination. "Our moderation team started seeing violative content around Charlie Kirk yesterday, and we removed over 100 experiences so far and are continuing to take action," the company said.
The company reiterated that its rules prohibit content that "reenacts real-world tragedies, promotes terrorism, or spreads hate." Roblox also reminded players to use the "report abuse" feature when they come across inappropriate material.
Despite the swift action, some content slipped through. Isolated in-game rallies, mocking avatar clothing, and chat references reportedly remained available. This sparked more criticism, with watchdog groups and parents highlighting how quickly harmful material spreads on the platform before moderation catches up.
A Familiar Problem for Roblox
This isn’t the first time Roblox has been under fire for questionable content. The platform has previously been criticized for allowing school shooting simulations and other violent experiences to circulate. And let’s not forget, NSFW content is practically on its daily specials menu.
In recent months, Roblox has introduced more than 100 new safety tools, including tighter parental controls, to reassure parents and regulators. These tools cover messaging restrictions, screen time management, and spending limits for children under 13.
Still, the Kirk-related incidents show just how difficult it is for Roblox to police a community where anyone can create and publish games.
