Sega has provided a fresh development update for Sonic Rumble, the upcoming 32-player battle royale game set in the Sonic universe, confirming that the game’s global launch is still on track, with no confirmed release date yet.
In a new statement shared via social media, the development team addressed ongoing questions surrounding the launch timeline. They clarified that current store page dates are simply placeholders and that more work is being done behind the scenes. While the game may appear nearly ready, the team emphasized they are still refining several core elements to ensure a polished experience when it officially rolls out.
The update acknowledged that Sonic Rumble still has a lot of unrevealed content in the pipeline. According to the developers, players can expect new characters, crossover events, additional features, and fresh stages as part of the final release. The focus, they noted, is especially on improving the experience for newcomers who haven’t had a chance to play early versions of the game.
The statement reads, “We feel a special responsibility to get this right for the entire Sonic community and to deliver a competitive, party multiplayer experience that keeps everyone, new and returning players alike, happy and engaged.”
Set in a toy-themed world designed by Dr. Eggman, Sonic Rumble blends chaotic platforming with mini-battle royale gameplay. It offers various game modes—like Run, Survival, and Ring Battle—each with short match durations designed for quick, fun play sessions. Players can choose from popular Sonic characters such as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, and Dr. Eggman, with plenty of customization options including skins and animations. The soundtrack will also pull from familiar tunes across the Sonic franchise.
While a concrete date is still under wraps, the developers stated they’re making steady progress toward a global launch in 2025. As per the update, more details will be revealed in the months ahead as they continue to prepare for a wider release.
