Shapez 2, the popular factory automation game by German-Indian developer Tobias Springer, is officially getting ready for its full 1.0 release in November 2025.
Along with the big launch, the game’s also getting a bunch of much-requested features—including Steam achievements, modding support, and a fresh new game mode aimed at players who love the more classic factory-sim experience.
Springer feels the game is more than ready for this next step, saying, “We feel like shapez 2 is already in a very solid state. With the recent updates and current state of the game, we want to get rid of the 'early access' label, as we felt it might imply the game might not be ready to be played yet.”
If you're not familiar with it, shapez 2 is a top-down factory-building and automation game set in a vibrant, space-themed world. Your job? Extract, process, and assemble geometric shapes by building massive, optimized factories. You can slice, paint, stack, or mix these shapes into all kinds of wild combinations—turning simple blueprints into massive production lines.
It’s the 3D follow-up to the original shapez, a well-loved 2D automation title that sold over 850,000 copies and drew 10 million players to its demo at shapez.io. Shapez 2 builds on that success with 3D visuals, deeper mechanics, and a more immersive vibe overall. The project is backed by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and has already moved over 540,000 units in Early Access on Steam, boasting an impressive 98% positive rating.
What’s Coming in Shapez 2 Full Launch?
With the transition out of Early Access, shapez 2 will bring in several community-requested additions.
New Game Mode
Probably the biggest addition is the brand-new game mode, tailored for players who want their factories to feel more permanent. Right now, gameplay can lean toward puzzle-solving due to the frequent need to rebuild. But the upcoming mode will make sure early-game shapes remain useful throughout, pushing the game closer to traditional factory sims that reward long-term strategy and planning.
Of course, if you love how the game plays now, don’t worry—the current version will still be available as a “classic” mode, so you can pick your favorite style of play.
Modding Support
Full modding support is coming, and the dev team is already encouraging creators to get involved before launch. If you’re interested, hop into the official Discord server, where they’ll be sharing tools, guides, and updates for mod support.
Steam Achievements
A long-requested feature—Steam achievements—is finally making its way into the game. These should add some extra challenges and replay value for players who enjoy ticking off goals as they go.
Savegames and Compatibility
One thing to note: existing save files from the current classic mode won’t be compatible with the new 1.0 mode. That said, no need to panic—you’ll still be able to access your old saves through a dedicated Steam branch made for the classic experience.
Just a heads-up though: mods and achievements won’t work on the legacy branch. But the good news is blueprint compatibility will stay intact between both modes, so you’ll still be able to share and use factory layouts without any issues.
