Skich Store, an alternative mobile app marketplace, has officially launched on Android after debuting on iOS in the European Union earlier this year.
The platform, which started as a game discovery app, is now positioning itself as a full-fledged app store aimed at helping players find quality titles.
The Android version is currently onboarding game/app developers, and interest is already strong, with more than 100 studios reportedly looking to join.
Skich offers a 15% revenue share for developers — a lower cut compared to many mainstream platforms (Standard 30% cut on Android Play Store and iOS App Store) — making it an attractive option for smaller studios trying to gain visibility.
It came into existence following the implementation of the EU’s Digital Markets Act, which seeks to "make digital markets fairer and more contestable by stopping dominant platforms from abusing their power and giving smaller players a fair chance."
CEO and co-founder Sergey Budkovski noted that discovery in the mobile gaming space is "broken" for devs without huge marketing budgets, emphasizing that Skich aims to offer "a real alternative where great games can rise on their own merit, not marketing spend."
The timing of Skich’s Android launch is interesting, coming shortly after the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a 2023 jury verdict that declared Google Play and its billing system an illegal monopoly in the Epic Games vs. Google case. This decision is expected to bring changes to Android’s app distribution rules, creating opportunities for more competing platforms.
For now, Skich Store for Android is available globally through APK download at https://skich.app, with the iOS version live in the EU and expansion plans targeting the UK, Japan, and Australia later this year.
