Some of South Korea’s biggest game publishers are heading to Japan later this month for Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2025, running from September 25 to 28 in Tokyo.
This year’s lineup is a mix of AAA blockbusters and fresh indie projects. Major publishers will be showing off titles tailored for Japanese audiences, while small and mid-sized studios, along with indie developers, will be featured in the Korea Joint Pavilion, organized by domestic industry bodies.
The Japanese market has always been a tough nut to crack for Korean developers. It’s one of the world’s top three gaming markets alongside China and North America, but its strong console focus and preference for homegrown IPs have historically made it challenging for foreign games to break through. That’s changing, though. The rise of mobile gaming in Japan, combined with Korean studios producing more titles based on popular IPs and subculture themes, has opened new doors.
One of the biggest headlines is Netmarble’s first-ever TGS appearance since its founding in 2000. They’re bringing ‘The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin’, based on the hit anime and manga series that’s sold over 55 million copies worldwide. The game is set for a simultaneous launch on console, PC, and mobile later this year.
