Split Fiction Blazes Past 4 Million Copies in Just 2 Months

split fiction 4 million

Hazelight Studios's latest co-op adventure, Split Fiction, has officially sold over 4 million copies just two months after its March 2025 release.

To put it in perspective: Hazelight’s last smash hit, It Takes Two, needed almost seven months to sell 3 million copies. So Split Fiction isn’t just riding on past success — it’s straight-up rocketing past it. If this pace keeps up, it might even outdo It Takes Two's total sales of 20 million.

Hazelight made the big announcement on social media with an enthusiastic, “4 MILLION SOLD!!!!” adding, “Seeing the fun you have with our game and the love you show for Mio, Zoe and each other warms our hearts here at Hazelight.”

Publisher EA also had reason to celebrate. In their financial report, they credited Split Fiction with a “hugely successful launch” and said it helped close out the 2025 fiscal year with a “strong finish.” Not bad for a game that launched on fewer platforms than It Takes Two.

So what’s driving all the hype? Well, Split Fiction is a co-op rollercoaster that connects players through the imaginations of two fiction writers — Mio and Zoe — blending wildly different genres, gameplay styles, and emotions. Add in the fan-favorite feature where only one player needs to own the game for both to play together, and you’ve got a recipe for instant buzz.

Let’s not forget — Split Fiction sold over 2 million copies in its first week. And with a Nintendo Switch 2 version confirmed as a launch title, the game’s reach is about to expand even more.

And if that wasn’t enough, the Split Fiction universe is going Hollywood. Story Kitchen, the production company behind the Sonic the Hedgehog films, is currently developing a movie adaptation. The project already has a director, scriptwriters, and a star — none other than Sydney Sweeney.

Hazelight isn’t slowing down either. The team’s already working on their next title, and if Split Fiction is any indication, they’re doubling down on their crown as kings of the co-op scene.
