Splitgate 2 is officially heading back to beta as developer 1047 Games hits the reset button to rework the game's core systems and structure.
In a candid statement posted on the official Splitgate X (formerly Twitter) account, the team admitted that they “launched too early,” resulting in a game that failed to meet the expectations of both fans and developers. As a result, the studio has decided to temporarily scale down operations, restructure its roadmap, and reallocate resources to focus on improving gameplay, progression, and monetization systems. Unfortunately, this shift has also led to another round of layoffs.
1047 Games shared that rebuilding the core experience is not a quick patch job but rather “a long-term commitment.” To make this rework possible, the company announced it has made the “incredibly difficult decision to reduce certain roles.” While specific numbers weren’t disclosed, the affected employees will receive severance packages and job placement support. The studio emphasized its intention to bring them back when the situation improves.
This isn’t the first time 1047 Games has reduced staff. Just a few weeks after Splitgate 2's launch, the studio went through a previous round of layoffs. Co-founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian even stopped drawing salaries to keep the development going — a clear sign of how seriously they’re taking this transitional phase.
To preserve as many team members as possible through this restructuring, 1047 has also made the tough call to shut down servers for the original Splitgate within the next month. According to the developers, the cost of keeping the original servers online has run into “hundreds of thousands of dollars” over the past few years. Still, they understand the emotional value the game holds for players and are now exploring offline or peer-to-peer options to keep parts of the OG experience alive.
As for what’s next, Splitgate 2 will remain playable in its current state while undergoing changes. Chapter 3 is still on track for release, alongside critical fixes and high-priority updates. The developers are also committed to becoming a “community-first” studio, promising more frequent playtests, community feedback sessions, and transparent development processes as the game moves forward.
The planned rework includes rebuilding the game’s progression system, simplifying its monetization model, adding more portals to maps, and putting greater emphasis on classic game modes — the kind of gameplay fans of the original Splitgate loved. While it’s a major reset, it’s also an opportunity for the developers to merge the best elements of both Splitgate titles into one cohesive experience.
1047 Games closed its statement with a heartfelt note to fans, saying: “We love this game, and we love this community too much to ever quit. So we won’t.”
The revised beta phase for Splitgate 2 is expected to run until early next year.
