Carry1st has announced that Spotify will serve as the official music sponsor for the Carry1st Africa Cup 2025, a major Call of Duty: Mobile tournament that also acts as the official African qualifier for the CODM World Championship 2025.
Following a successful debut in 2024, this year’s tournament will once again gather the top 8 CODM teams from across Africa.
These finalists will compete for a $15,000 prize pool and, more importantly, a shot at global recognition by qualifying for the World Championship, where the total prize pool hits a staggering $1 million.
The grand finals are scheduled to take place in Lagos, Nigeria, from 30 to 31 August 2025.
Guillaume Noé, VP of Growth at Carry1st, shared his excitement about the collaboration, saying, “The Carry1st Africa Cup is a celebration of African youth, talent, and creativity. Partnering with Spotify allows us to take this to the next level, uniting music and gaming to give fans an unforgettable experience at the grand finals.”
As the music sponsor, Spotify will not only curate the tournament’s official soundtrack but also bring live DJ sets and artist performances to the venue. Fans attending the event in Lagos will be able to hang out in the Spotify Fan Zone, featuring a music lounge, interactive games, phone charging stations, and exclusive giveaways designed to enhance the experience beyond the esports action.
In the lead-up to the finals, Spotify will launch the Carry1st Africa Cup Official Playlist on 3 August, featuring a blend of Afrobeats, Afro-gaming tracks, and fan-voted hits from across the continent. The final playlist will be revealed during the week of 11 August, with fan voting tied to the Nigeria regional finals.
Speaking on behalf of Spotify, Sithabile Kachisa, associate director of marketing for Sub-Saharan Africa, said, “Spotify is thrilled to partner with Carry1st to bring the power of music to the biggest mobile gaming tournament on the continent. Together, we’re creating a space where African gamers and artists can shine on a global stage.”
The competition has already been heating up, with regional qualifiers held between May and July across key African regions including South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Egypt, Morocco, and Francophone West Africa (Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Senegal). There's even a wildcard slot to give other African countries a chance to participate.
Matches are structured in a double-elimination, Best-of-5 (Bo5) format, except for the Grand Final. The top teams from each region will meet in Lagos for the LAN showdown, where only one team will earn a ticket to the Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship 2025.
Fans can catch the action live on Carry1st’s YouTube channel.
