Street Fighter 6 is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, and new details have emerged about how the game will perform on the upcoming console.
According to Digital Foundry, the fighting game actually runs at a native resolution of 960x540 pixels (540p) and uses NVIDIA's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology to upscale the image to 1080p. This AI-powered upscaling creates a remarkably clean final image that initially fooled even these technical experts.
"It's a remarkably clean scale in most shots, with the first few frames following a camera cut being one way to catch the base resolution from its docked mode play," Digital Foundry explained (Thanks Eventhub).
The experts find no noticeable issues with ghosting or visual artifacts that sometimes plague upscaling methods. The implementation appears to be quite effective, maintaining the game's visual integrity while allowing it to run smoothly.
The experts compared the Switch 2 version of Street Fighter 6 to other platforms and found it most closely resembles the PlayStation 4 version rather than the Xbox Series S version. Some visual elements have been scaled back, including reduced shadow and reflection quality. They also noticed the removal of interactive cherry blossom petals on certain stages.
Despite these adjustments, Digital Foundry was impressed with the game's performance on Nintendo's new hardware. Street Fighter 6 maintains a consistent 60 frames per second throughout gameplay, with frame rate drops only occurring during the versus loading screen – not during actual matches where performance matters most.
The technical experts jokingly highlighted how much better Street Fighter 6 looks on Switch 2 compared to how Mortal Kombat 1 performs on the original Switch, suggesting a significant leap in capability for Nintendo's new console.
With Street Fighter 6 using DLSS on the Switch 2, speculation has begun about whether the upcoming Summer update for the game might bring similar AI upscaling features to PC and other platforms. This could potentially improve performance and reduce input lag across all versions of the game.
Street Fighter 6 is scheduled to launch on June 5, coinciding with the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. This date also marks the arrival of Elena, the final DLC character for Season 2 of the game.
Recently, CD Projekt RED also confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Switch 2 will utilize NVIDIA's DLSS technology.
